Managing The Whole Person: Mental Health @ Work

Managing The Whole Person: Mental Health @ Work

Work and personal life blended during the pandemic. When the kitchen table does double-duty as the desk, and Zoom is for work, school, & fun - all of this means your management style has to change as well. You have to manage the whole person

We sat down with the incredible Mental Health Awareness Employee Resource Group from CentralSquare Technologies to discuss ways you can help your team take care of their mental health and feel supported to do their best work.

A huge thank you to Salesloft and Chorus for sponsoring, Sanj for moderating, and to Ashley, Bryan , and CJ for participating as panelists!

Topics

  • Why our speakers have relevant insight for the Modern Sales Pros community

  • What's the purpose of an ERG?

  • How has mental health impacted our speakers in their professions?

  • How has it impacted their peers/managers?

  • How to become your own advocate

  • How does personal well-being impact the business?

  • How can you create an environment where people feel free to be open about what's going on without fear of consequences or lack of empathy?

Key takeaways

  • The importance of Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) and how to get started: Start with developing your mission to build a strong foundation for the group. Get your leadership to sponsor and support your mission, values, and projects - someone who can attend your meetings and vouch for you at the executive level. Having that level of support and engagement really helps an ERG thrive.

  • How to deal with your own mental health in your workplace: Remember that it's constant management, and something to acknowledge as a part of you. When you embrace and learn that and be mindful of it, you’re more likely to be able to advocate for yourself, and be open and honest about your needs with yourself and others. Be intentional about how your mental health will impact your performance.

  • How to advocate for yourself: Know your boundaries and stick with them. Have direct conversations about your challenges or struggles, and last but not least, present an action plan for yourself like you would any other project. Let your reports and supervisors know the steps you will take individually and as a team to be the best employee.

  • How to create an environment of welcomeness, inclusivity, and mindfulness for your team: Create a culture of openness and honesty, keep in mind that everyone might need different paths to the same goal, and keep asking yourself what you can do to help your team do their best work.
